Saint Paul College is a technical community college in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The school was established in 1910. The College is found at the heart of St. Paul in Minnesota, right across from the Minnesota History Center and right next to the Cathedral of Saint Paul. Saint Paul started as an Boy’s Vocational School in 1910 and helped train young men in building skills for trade. The Girl’s school opened soon after to train young women. The school was first located in area high schools until 1966, when the school moved to its permanent facility, a 523,000 square foot building on a 30-acre site in Marshal Avenue in Saint Paul Minnesota. In 2002, the school changed its name from Saint Paul TVI (Technical Vocation Institute) to Saint Paul College, with an added emphasis on liberal arts education.
The College offers 39 associate degree programs, including the Associate in Arts degree, and 60 career certificate and diploma programs. Saint Paul College also offers online and Weekend College options to their students. The school and has an average of around 10,000 full-time and part-time students. The school colors are sky blue and dark blue and their school motto is "Start Here…Go Anywhere".
In 2010, Saint Paul College was ranked as the top community college in the country by the Washington Monthly magazine. The school was commended for engaging students in collaborative and active learning, student and faculty interaction, and student support for learning. The College is also runs the Power of YOU scholarship program. The program awards qualified students who graduate from Saint Paul or Minneapolis public schools the opportunity to go to Saint Paul College on a scholarship, tuition-free.
